Eye Bright

Light Conditions:

• Full Sun:
  Place eye bright in a location that receives 6 to 8 hours of sunlight per day.
• Partial Shade:
  In our climate, eye bright may grow well with 3 to 6 hours of sunlight per day, primarily morning sun
• Relocate eyebright to an area with more shade if leaves are consistently scorched by the sun.

Soil:

• Water-logged soil that can be infertile (poor) to fertile (rich) in nutrients.
• The plant has been reported to grow from sea-level up to 1000 metres near rivers, lakes, fallo rice fields and roadsides, and on waste lands, anthropogenic habitats, fields, pastures, and even periodically desiccating pools and ditches.
• An area such as a muddy drain site can be an option.

Watering Frequency:

• Water the soil regularly.
• Eye bright can tolerate moderate to lots of water.

Amendments and Fertiliser:

• Eye bright is regarded as a weed outside of its native region and as a result, amendments and fertiliser should not be necessary.
• If you notice that the plant appears to wither, monitor the lighting conditions, the soil moisture (in particular) and whether the plant is root bound.

Pruning:

• Prune (deadhead) stems or leaves when they appear to wilt, look diseased or turn brown.
• Pruning can aid in stimulating new growth and flowers.

A decoction of the entire components of St. John’s Bush can be formulated, mixed with Eye Bright and Minnieroot, to relieve menstrual pains, induce abortion, and help clean the womb (remove tissue in the womb) after a miscarriage. Additionally, a decoction of Eye Bright and Shandilay can be utilised to address bedwetting.
